Using a rare and unique method of rug weaving, these Mamluk rugs use only three colours. They take their name from the Sultans that ruled Cairo and this style is considered a major achievement in medieval Islamic art. Employing an exceptionally fine weaving technique, they would generally show symmetrical, geometric patterns that either relate to architecture of the time or have symbolic meaning. Handmade in India, this rug is a faithful recreation of this outstanding period of design. The bright colours show a central medallion, bordered with traditional motifs.
